For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you… For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. – 2 Timothy 1:6–7
Even though the Apostle Paul wrote these words while facing execution, his focus was not on death—it was on destiny. That alone tells us something powerful: the fire of God does not go out when circumstances grow dark.
Timothy was under pressure. Persecution was real. Fear was knocking. And Paul didn’t tell him to find a new strategy—he told him to stir the fire. The gift was already there. The flame hadn’t disappeared. It only needed fanning.
The same is true for you. What God placed in you did not expire. It may feel like embers, but embers still carry fire. All they need is air, and the breath of God reignites what life tries to smother.
God has not given you fear. Fear is not your inheritance. Power is. Love is. A sound mind is. When darkness increases, light doesn’t retreat—it shines brighter. Scripture says, “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). Resisting the devil is holy. Standing for Christ is rebellion against hell.
No matter what, fan the flame! “The fire on the altar shall be kept burning; it shall not go out” (Leviticus 6:12). What you feed will grow. When you seek Him first—“Seek first the kingdom of God” (Matthew 6:33)—your spirit comes alive.
Maybe it is time for you to recalibrate your life. If so, choose the throne before your phone. Choose prayer before panic. Fan the flame. The fire is still there—and God is breathing on it now!
