THE PROMISE AND THE POWER

“Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” – Luke 24:49 (NKJV)
Before Jesus ascended into heaven, He left His disciples with the very important command to wait for the promised Holy Spirit. It wasn’t just a suggestion. It was a divine directive. Jesus knew that the disciples would not be able to fulfill the Great Commission in their own strength. They needed more than knowledge; they needed power. They needed to be “endued with power from on high.”
That power came on the Day of Pentecost. Acts 2:4 tells us “they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” Speaking in tongues was not just a supernatural sign; it was the evidence of a divine infilling. This baptism of the Holy Spirit marked a new dimension of boldness, authority, and intimacy with God.
The Apostle Paul wrote, “He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself” (1 Corinthians 14:4). You see, praying in the Spirit builds up our inner man, strengthens our faith, and aligns us with God’s will. It’s a direct line to Him that bypasses the limitations of our human understanding.
Living a power-filled Christian life means we operate not from weakness, but from the Spirit-enabled strength that Jesus promised. The baptism in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues equips us for victorious living, powerful prayer, and effective witness. It is not just an experience; it is a lifestyle of walking in His power.
