A LESSON IN PEACE

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
Joshua 1:8
God’s Word is one of the most important ways that we connect with Him. In His Word we learn His character, His will, and His promises! And as we meditate on and study scripture, the Holy Spirit can renew our minds and make us more like Him.
So, what does biblical meditation look like? Other religions teach meditation as emptying your mind, but we need to fill our minds with God’s Word! When we are working, exercising, driving, eating dinner, or doing anything else, we can be meditating on a verse or passage of scripture. When we keep His ways and words in our minds, we can more easily follow them in our daily lives.
Proverbs 3:1-2 says, My son, do not forget my law, But let your heart keep my commands; For length of days and long life, And peace they will add to you. Most people are looking for peace in their lives, but do not know that true peace is only found in God. Reading, meditating on, and acting on His Word brings peace into our lives. It wipes away the shame, guilt, and condemnation from the enemy and allows us to focus solely on the goodness of God.
God’s Word is the number one way that He communicates with us – prayer alone will not allow you to understand His will. As we fill our minds with scripture daily, the Holy Spirit is able to work to renew our minds and cleanse it of the lies of the world. Romans 12:2 says, And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. God wants to reveal His thoughts and will to us, but we have to seek Him out. Open up God’s Word today, and allow Him to speak to you!
