For I know the plans that I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope. – Jeremiah 29:11
This verse is often quoted during difficult times, and it’s easy to see why. It reassures us that God has a plan for our lives, even when things seem uncertain. To fully appreciate this promise, we need to understand that it was written to the Israelites while they were in exile in Babylon—a time when they felt lost and abandoned. God spoke these words to give them hope, reminding them that their story wasn’t over.
Today, we also face seasons of pain, uncertainty, and hardship. During these times, it’s crucial to remember that God’s promises and plans weren’t only for the Israelites; they are also for us today. His thoughts toward us are always for good, not for harm – and what we are currently going through is not the end of the story!
Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” This scripture encourages us to trust God completely, even when we don’t understand what’s happening. While it may be tempting to rely on our own ability to figure things out, we need to remember that God sees the bigger picture. He knows the way forward and promises to guide us.
When you are going through a difficult time, resist the urge to focus on the problems in front of you. Instead, lift your eyes and heart to Him, trusting that He is working everything out for your good. Even when the road is hard, draw hope and strength from His promises.
God is faithful, and His plans for you are full of hope and a good future!
