Faith or Fiction

Duane Vander Klok

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” Hebrews 4:12

When you read the stories in the Old Testament, what do you think about? Do you think of them as just a story, as a piece of fiction; or do you read them with a sense of history and non-fiction spanning many authors and generations. Scripture is described as being God-Breathed, God-Inspired, and sharper than any two-edged sword. You see, when we read the Bible, we are reading a piece of relational history that is alive. When you read it, it is actually reading you and revealing, convicting, and encouraging every situation you may encounter.

The problem is, the Enemy is doing everything that he can to convince us that the stories are out of date, just a piece of fiction, and that they cannot change any situation you face. The truth, however, is that the very same Spirit that flows through every passage, prose, and page of the Bible is alive. The very same Spirit that spoke in Genesis is still speaking to every Believer today.

You see, the stories that we read are more than just stories: they are testimonies. They are meant to give glory, honor, and praise to what God has done, is doing, and will do. The root word for testimony in Hebrew translates as, “To do it again.” What God has done in the pages of Scripture, we as Believers have inherited and can rest in the assurance that He will do it again.

This week, let’s ask for the Holy Spirit to speak through the Scripture and reveal what He has done, is doing, and will continue to do again in our life.
