Eternal Treasure

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Matthew 6:19-21

How do we store up treasures in heaven? Jesus tells us that our earthly treasure will be wasted and pass away, but heavenly treasure will impact eternity! You were given gifts, talents, and resources to use for furthering the Kingdom of God. Jesus didn’t accomplish everything so that we could do nothing. He defeated the enemy and reconnected us with the Father, and gave the authority to us to spread the good news!

The life of a believer is not a self-focused life. In 2 Corinthians 12:15, Paul said, “I will gladly be spent for your souls.” Spreading the gospel will require sacrifice because the Christian life is a fight from the womb to the tomb. We are fighting a very real enemy whose goal is to destroy the lives of God’s people.

By loving God and loving people, we build the Kingdom of God and destroy the works of the enemy. Jesus instructs us to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness so that we can keep our focus on eternity. See, we can spend our talents building something temporary on earth or we can devote ourselves to something that will have eternal impact. Praising Him and sharing the good news throughout the world is a great way to spend your life!
