A Holy Partnership

“But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.”
John 16:7

After Jesus ascended to Heaven, the Disciples were gathered together in the Upper Room praying together. Jesus had promised that when He departed, He would send an Advocate, or Helper, to be with them. Scripture says that it was on the day of Pentecost that the Holy Spirit descended upon them, and they all began to speak in different languages and tongues. People who had gathered from all around the world began to hear them speaking in their own native language about the works of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

This passage is amazing, captivating, and compelling for many reasons, but there is one in particular that sticks out. When the Holy Spirit came down, He could have gone and deposited the Gospel and knowledge about God in the minds of all the people within the city. In one instant, He could have single-handedly revealed Himself to thousands of people.

Instead, He went down to the Believers in the Upper Room and partnered with them to do something far more miraculous and awe-inspiring that we still read about and discuss today. You see, God wants to partner with every Believer to make an amazing impact in the world. He created each of us with unique gifts and talents, and placed people in our paths that we can reach with the Gospel. We each have our own languages and ways of communicating that can impact tens, hundreds, and thousands over time when we partner with the Holy Spirit.

This week, let’s ask the Holy Spirit to speak through us in our specific contexts and impact someone’s life for His Kingdom.
