Yesterday Today

Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6

When you read the stories throughout Scripture, do you ever wish that you could travel back through time and experience the events as they unfold? Maybe you look at the journey of the prophets, or even the lives of the Apostles as they are called out from obscurity and into the very presence of Jesus Christ. Sometimes we, as Believers, might think that living during those times would be even better than the days in which we live today.

Here’s the problem: His ministry and work haven’t stopped. We read the stories and only focus on what happened to them, rather than what He promises to continue to do through us. You see, Jesus Himself tells His followers that they would perform equal and greater works than the ones that they were witnessing. This revelation and promise weren’t just meant for the Apostles in the first century, but for every Believer.

You and I get to participate in Jesus’ present-day ministry. He has blessed every Believer with the power and authority of Heaven itself. We get to partner with the Holy Spirit and live with Him within us every single day. Our Goliath may not be a man at the center of an intimidating battlefield, but it may be a mountain that our family, neighbors, and friends and work may be facing. We don’t just get to read the stories, but we get to participate in the greater Heavenly narrative.

This week, let’s ask for the Holy Spirit to guide, speak, and empower us in His present-day ministry.
