God’s Voice

Duane Vander Klok

“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” Jeremiah 33:3

When you imagine God speaking to you, what do you imagine and envision? Do you hear a loud booming voice like thunder speaking in King James Version English? Are His words harsh, kind, or somewhere in between? Does He sound like you? How do you tell the difference between His guiding and your own thoughts?

Regardless of how He speaks to us as individuals, the truth is God still speaks to all of us. 1 Thessalonians describes us as spiritual beings. We are not God, and we never will be God, but we are the same type of being that God is: spirit. God is the Holy Spirit that dwells within us and brings revelation, clarity, and peace to our spirit. He speaks to each of us in unique and different ways, but again, the great news is that He is alive and speaking! When His Holy Spirit speaks within us, it is not a false voice, it is not a misguided voice, and it is not our voice, it is His.

Before Jesus ascended to Heaven, He told His Disciples that it was necessary, even better for them, that He leave so that He could send a Helper. That Helper is the Holy Spirit that lives and speaks within all of us. At first thought, we might think that having Jesus in person would be better, but He reassured all believers, of all time, that it was going to be better to send the Holy Spirit. This Helper still speaks, leads, and guides all of us on our journey of discipleship.

This week, let’s ask the Holy Spirit to speak and teach us how to listen to Him better. Let’s also ask for Him to silence the voice of the Enemy and any of the lies that are not from Him.
