Through The Valley
Duane Vander Klok
“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
Psalm 23:1-4 ESV
As a nation, and throughout the world, we are walking through a dark valley. Many of us are facing dark or difficult circumstances, but we know that our God is with us. Stand firm and know that He is working in your life even in the darkest of times! God will take what the devil meant for evil and turn it around for your good. James 1:17 NIV says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
In dark times, we are called to persevere and grow our faith. God uses those hard times to grow us on the inside—our character grows, our faith grows, and our trust in God grows. But faith doesn’t only grow because we face dark valleys. As believers, we must keep our faith and resist the fear of the enemy. Our faith grows when we remember and give thanks for what God has already done in our lives. Just camping out in the dark valleys will not get us through; we have to continue seeking God and continue trusting His promises. What has God done for you in the past? Remember those victories and give thanks!
As we are seeking Him in the valley, He will show us what is ahead. God does not speak to us from our situation, He speaks to us from the place that he’s called us to—our destiny. Continue to ask Him where He is calling you, and then follow His voice out of the valley.
