Stand Up
Duane Vander Klok
Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being tempted for forty days by the devil. And in those days He ate nothing, and afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry.
And the devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.”
But Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’”
Luke 4:1-4
As you grow in faith, you need to understand that you have authority over the enemy. In the desert, Jesus demonstrates that you can overcome the enemy by resisting the lies he tempts you with and speaking the Word of God over your life instead.
Living by faith requires you to resist the enemy’s plans for your life. In Matthew 11:12 Jesus says, And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. God wants to give you good things, but the enemy will only flee from your life when you resist him. You can take back what the enemy has taken – your health, your family, and even your own heart! The enemy can only succeed when you are passive in your faith.
Too often people think that everything that happens is God’s will, so they do not resist anything. But here’s the truth: the enemy’s goal is to destroy the very thing that God loves – you. He will destroy whatever you let him touch in your life. The last time you resisted the enemy was the last time he fled from you.
Most Christians want to get saved so that they can go to heaven when they die, but God saved you so that He could get heaven into you right now. You don’t have to wait for victory; it is in your hands right now. Stand up and resist the lies of the enemy!
