Speak Out

Duane Vander Klok

Your mouth is like a fountain that flows out of your heart—what you put into your heart is what will come out of your mouth. This connection from your heart to your mouth can be especially strong in difficult times such as these. What has your mouth been reflecting? Peace and faith or fear and doubt? Standing in faith can be difficult when we can’t see God’s plan or how He is working in our lives, but His Word says that He is always with us and for us. Speaking and confessing faith requires that we sow His Word deep in our hearts so that in times of trouble, we have a deep well to draw from.

The first step in growing in faith is meditating on the Word. God gave us scripture so we could know Him and His heart. As you continue to sow it in your heart, it becomes alive inside of you and grows your faith. Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” When we hear the Word, it gets planted into our hearts, but it needs to be watered again and again for it to grow our faith. Our hearts are watered when we hear, study, and speak the Word.

Not only do we need to continue sowing the Word into our hearts, we need to speak it into our lives. The Word of God is our weapon against the enemy, and when we speak it we have victory over him. In Matthew 4:1-11, the devil tries to tempt Jesus three times, but each time Jesus says, “It is written…” By fighting back with scripture that was deep in His heart, Jesus overcomes the devil. Confessing our faith with our mouth means agreeing with God over our situation and having faith in His plans. Choose to speak His Word in your life and grow in faith!
