Called to Grow

Duane Vander Klok

What you put into your heart is what will flow out of it. As Christians, we need to make sure that we are planting more of God’s Word into our hearts than things of the world. What is growing in your heart? In a moment of free time do you turn to the sports channel, a hobby, or a TV show, or do you take that time to grow in God’s Word? TV and hobbies are not bad things, but do they have more of your heart than scripture does?

Especially in hard times, what comes out of your heart is important. Does the fear and doubt of the world overflow, or is your heart full of the peace and wisdom of God? During hard times we cannot expect to find His Word in our hearts and minds if we haven’t planted them. The Word says that we are to be transformed by the renewing of our minds which comes from hearing and studying the Word (Romans 12:2). We can only know what God says about our situation if we have spent time with Him and studying His Word.

When we know what God says about our situation, we can begin to agree with Him by speaking it. Our words are powerful: “Life and death is in the power of the tongue.” Proverbs 18:21 ESV. The Word of God on our tongue is our weapon against the devil. So when we speak God’s Word over our situation, we can move mountains. Mark 11:23 ESV says, “Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him.”

What verses are you believing and speaking over your life?
