Our Greatest Weapon

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
1 Peter 5:8

The Bible teaches us that Satan is a real being, and his primary goal is to steal, kill, and destroy God’s children (John 10:9). He has been waging war against the Kingdom of God! We know that God has given us authority over Satan, but if we do not know our enemy, the war is over before it has started and we are defeated.

Too many people have been taught that Satan simply represents evil or does not really exist. But 2 Corinthians 2:11 tells us …lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices. We are most vulnerable to the devil when we are passive and ignorant of his schemes. He will often use and twist the things that God gave us to enjoy to hurt and tempt us such as music, marriage, or relationships.

So how can we be effective in the fight against Satan? Our greatest weapon is the Word of God. When Jesus was fasting in the desert and the enemy came three times to tempt Him, Jesus fought and won with God’s Word. He fought back saying, “It is written…” Jesus called out the lies of the enemy by standing on faith, truth, and righteousness in the Word of God.

When the enemy comes at you with lies, temptations, sicknesses, or hardships, know that you have the power to fight back! In Jesus’s Name, you are free. You are healed. And you are not alone. Take comfort and strength in the Word of God!
