A Battleground

Duane Vander Klok

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,
2 Corinthians 10:4-5

Your mind is a battleground, and every thought that comes into your mind must be taken captive to the obedience of God. Not every thought that enters your mind will be honoring to God, and when those thoughts enter your mind, you need to cast them out. You will move in the direction of your dominant thought – so if your thoughts are not submitted to the Lord, you will be pulled away from Him.

Your thoughts should be focused on God’s Word and His will for your life. You may receive bad news from a doctor or lose hope in school or a job, but know that God has a future for you that is greater than what you imagine. He has healing, peace, joy, and good works for you! Hebrews 11:1 says, Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. When you trust in what God has for you, you are walking in faith. But when you give these bad reports, fears, and hopelessness space in your thoughts, you are walking away from what God wants for your life.

So how can you make God’s Word dominant in your thoughts? What you meditate on – or think about over and over – is what will produce fruit on the inside of you. If you are meditating on the promises of this world then you will come up empty and fearful. But the promises of God are yes and amen, they are for your good, and God is faithful to deliver. His Word says that He will never leave nor forsake you. While the world gives heartache, stress, pain, and despair, God is a good Father and gives good gifts to His children. Choose to fill your heart and mind with His Word, and watch it produce righteousness, peace, and joy in your life!
