Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
Hebrews 2:14-15

Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil, set us free from the captivity of sin, and give us abundant life. But why did He have to come to earth to accomplish this? When God created the earth, He created the land, the sea, the creatures, and it was good. He then created Adam and Eve in His image and put them in charge of the Garden of Eden. He created man – including us – to rule with Him on the earth! They were in constant fellowship with God, but he also gave them freewill.

One tree in the garden was unlike the others – it was forbidden. God told Adam and Eve not to eat from this tree. The enemy tempted them, and they decided to eat from it anyway, and through their disobedience, man was separated from God. Their choice took away their authority (and ours) as death, sin and brokenness were introduced to the world. What could reconcile the severed connection between man and God?

A sacrifice was needed, and the perfect and righteous Son of God came as a substitute sacrifice to close the gap between man and God. Jesus was fully God and fully man when He was born on earth. He lived, died, and rose again victorious over the sin and brokenness that the devil brought to earth! His death paid the price for the sin of every person and closed the gap between us and our Heavenly Father!

The price for your sin was paid, once and for all. Every iniquity, every broken requirement, and every rebellion was nailed to the cross with our Savior. It is finished and won through Jesus!
