You Have Authority

Duane Vander Klok

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever.
Ephesians 3:20-21

Your Heavenly Father wants only good things for you – He does not give bad gifts. In John 10:10 we learn what is from God and what is from the enemy: The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. This verse is used to divide and understand what is from God and what is not. If it steals, kills, or destroys, it is not from God. Pain, sickness, and hardship still happen in our lives because the enemy is still at work. However, Jesus won back the authority over the enemy when He defeated death on the cross!

Too many people run the other way or go into hiding when the enemy comes to destroy, but the truth is that God has given us the power to stand up and fight! In Matthew 28:18-19 Jesus says, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations…”. As soon as Jesus had won the victory, He commissioned us saying, “Go therefore…”

And He has empowered you and me to fight against the enemy’s works in our lives. So, what weapons do we have for this fight? Our greatest weapon is the Word of God. When Jesus was fasting in the desert and the enemy came three times to tempt Him, Jesus fought and won with God’s Word. He fought back saying, “It is written…” Jesus called out the lies of the enemy by standing on faith, truth, and righteousness in the Word of God.

When the enemy comes at you with lies, temptations, sicknesses, or hardships, know that you have the power to fight back! In Jesus’s Name, you are free. You are healed. And you are not alone. Take comfort and strength in the Word of God!
