You Can Walk By Faith
Duane Vander Klok
Seeing is believing, right? WRONG.
Most people live based on what they see – they walk by sight. I believe that’s why the Lord originally prompted us to begin a television ministry.
Think about this:
Have you ever tried to walk blindfolded? If so, you probably felt disoriented after just a couple of steps. It’s not natural to walk without looking where we’re going, yet that is specifically what Paul advocated when he wrote “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7)
Previously, Paul said, “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen… ” (2 Corinthians 4:18)
Paul knew the reality that when we walk by faith, we are “being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” Isn’t that the definition of faith we are given in Hebrews 11:1?
I believe Paul wanted us to fully understand the importance of trusting God rather than our senses.
Faith Is A Key
Faith is an essential key to a successful life. Jesus said, “Everything is possible for him who believes.” (Mark 9:23)
Your faith is meant to unlock things that are seemingly impossible and open the door to receiving your full inheritance from God.
Getting Faith
There is only one way to get faith. Romans 10:17 says, “faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” That’s it. There are no shortcuts.
First, God gives us a promise in His Word that is relevant to our circumstances.
Second, we believe the promise.
Third, we take a step of faith and obey God by doing what His Word says.
Faith is not passive; it’s active and many of God’s promises are conditional – we receive the benefit of His part only when we do ours.
A Higher Way
God has called us to a higher way than walking by what we see. He says, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
The Psalmist wrote, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.” (Psalm 119:105) Everyone needs God’s direction and guidance. Without it, we wander aimlessly on the road of life.
I challenge you to walk by faith, not by sight. Develop your faith in the Lord by reading, believing and obeying the Word of God. God is always there to meet you at the point of your faith!
