Victory in Temptation

No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
1 Corinthians 10:13

The devil does not have a lot of tricks – he will come to steal, kill, destroy your life, but he cannot do that without your permission. Through the cross, you have the power to resist the devil and fight back!

The Bible tells us that you will be faced with temptation, but you do not have to be overcome by it. God promises that it will not be more than you can handle, and He always provides a way out. There is always a way to reach Him instead of getting stuck in that temptation or circle of sin and hardship.

But notice that although God does provide a way of escape, He does not force you to choose Him. Something is required of you when you face temptation – it does not disappear simply because you want it to. You need to act on the escape route that God provides. When sin and temptation knock on your door, run! The devil will flee from you, but you have to resist him first.

1 John 5:4 says, For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. As a believer, you are born into the victory that Jesus won on the cross. It can be difficult to remember this truth when you are surrounded by temptation and hardship. When you are in the deep end, remember what Jesus said in Luke 20:19, Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. The enemy may have power, but you have authority in Jesus’s Name. He can only destroy your life if you let him. Instead, choose God’s Word and His ways!
