Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy- think about such things. Philippians 4:8

Your mind and thoughts are important because whatever you might think, that thought is going to cause you to move. Whatever your dominant thought is consistently over time, that is the direction in which you’re going to move in your every-day life. If you continually think in your heart and mind that life is worthless, that no one listens to you, and that no one loves you, then you are eventually going to believe these lies.

You see, there is a very real enemy that scripture describes as prowling like a lion, seeking to kill and consume anyone who is not steadfast in their faith. Scripture also says that there are powers and principalities in the world that are waging war against all of creation. The enemy and these powers want nothing more than to twist and turn your thoughts away from God and His truth.

There is good news though, there is a way to fight back and begin to change the pattern of our thoughts. First and foremost, let’s acknowledge that life can be hard and full of trials; but let’s equally hold onto the truth that these present realities are only temporary when we hold fast to God. Second, let’s acknowledge that there is an Enemy working against us, and continue to seek God and His truth in scripture, through prayer, and in worship. Finally, let’s take control of our thoughts and begin to speak truth and life over every situation until we begin to walk it out: “I am loved,” “I am never alone,” and “I am fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God!”

This week, let’s take control of our thoughts and begin to speak God’s truth over our lives. Let’s also speak truth over the lives of those around us, and begin to walk it out.
