The Vine
Duane Vander Klok
“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.”
John 15:5-8
Solomon of the Old Testament was given the gift of wisdom by God and was the wisest man to ever live. But throughout his life he found himself chasing fulfillment and happiness not understanding that those things can come only from God. He chased every avenue available in order to find contentment – women, marriage, money, projects, success, work, knowledge – but it eluded him.
When your focus is set on worldly things, it is like grasping for the wind. All of your work in this world will be left to someone else, and all of your possessions will be left behind. If you are chasing money, you will find that you never think you have enough. If you are chasing success, love, material possessions, experiences, or relationships, you will not find true fulfillment. We were made by God for God. You were designed to be in relationship with Him, and when it is missing, you will never feel fulfilled. He is the Source – He is the vine and we are the branches – and without Him something will always be missing.
When you are pursuing God, He takes care of you. When you invite Him in, He can work in your heart, your career, your finances, your family, and in every other aspect of your life. As you pursue God above all else, He will show you purpose, fulfillment, joy, and peace that cannot be found anywhere else!
