You & The Spirit

Duane Vander Klok

Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Galatians 3:13-14

Do you know the power that is available to you as a believer? When you are saved, you receive the Holy Spirit inside of you as a guide, helper, and counselor. But know that there is something more available to you!

After receiving salvation, believers are called to get water baptized, and baptized in the Holy Spirit. Water baptism is a first step of faith and commitment to God, and the Baptism of the Holy Spirit empowers you to be a witness for the Kingdom!

You may be asking: if I received the Holy Spirit when I was saved, why do I need to be baptized in the Holy Spirit? When the Holy Spirit is inside of you, He is a teacher, guide, and comforter – He is working in you. But there is more that He wants to do. Acts 1:8 says, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” He also wants to work through you to build God’s Kingdom!

When new believers receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, we can see a few of the changes that take place. The believers began to speak in tongues and prophesy, and there was a greater compassion for the lost as well as a readiness to serve. With the Holy Spirit inside of you and the power to be a witness, you will be drawn more and more toward the Kingdom of God and begin walking in your authority!
