The Beginning & The End

Duane Vander Klok

“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” – Revelation 1:8

Did you know that Jesus is woven into every part of the Bible? In John 1:1, we see that Jesus is the Word—He was with God in the beginning, and He was God. Everything was made through Him. When God said, “Let there be light” in Genesis 1:3, that was Jesus at work. Colossians 1:16 confirms this, saying, “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible.”

What this means to us is that Jesus didn’t just show up in the New Testament. He was there all along. In Exodus 3:2, the Angel of the Lord appeared to Moses in a flame of fire in the middle of a burning bush. But then, God speaks from the fire, revealing that this is no ordinary angel—it’s the Lord Himself. In John 5:39, Jesus said to the Pharisees, “You search the Scriptures, for in them you think that you have eternal life; but these are they which testify of Me.” What He was saying was, “All of it—every story, every prophecy—points to Me.”

One of the clearest examples of this is in Daniel 3. When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego refused to bow to Nebuchadnezzar’s golden statue, they were thrown into a fiery furnace. But the king was shocked when he saw not three men, but four walking unharmed in the fire. He said, “and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.” (Daniel 3:25). Jesus didn’t just watch from heaven—He stepped into the fire with them!

Jesus is the second person of the godhead. He is the Creator, the Savior, and the soon-coming King—and today, He is still willing and able to step into whatever fiery situation you may find yourself in!
