The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
Too many Christians prefer to believe that the devil does not live in their neighborhood; they may think that he lives in Las Vegas or in other far-away parts of the world, and it can be easy to forget that his goal is to kill, steal, and destroy every one of God’s children including you. The devil is at work in your life, and it is up to you to get rid of him!
So how do you follow Jesus’s example and resist the devil? First, you need to understand that you have been given authority over him – you have the power to stand on the Word of God and stomp on the devil’s plans! Jesus told us in Luke 10:19, Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. When you are facing a big battle with the devil, you do not have to worry about how far your authority stretches because you can know that you have authority over all of the power of the devil.
There is no neutral ground in the fight for your soul – the devil wants to destroy you and God wants to give you life. You cannot stand in the middle! 1 John 3:19 tells us: And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him. Even when you do not feel powerful, you can stand strong on the Word of God and know that it is not power that you can lose or only access at certain times, but it is the power that Jesus has given you through His resurrection!
