Spirit-Empowered Prayer
Duane Vander Klok
“Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us…” – Romans 8:26
God never intended for us to live our lives only in our own strength. When we are baptized in the Holy Spirit, we receive power from God, including the ability to pray prayers that are beyond our human understanding.
Even when we do not know what to pray, we can pray in tongues (the supernatural language of the Holy Spirit) knowing that He always leads us into truth and alignment with the Father’s heart. Praying in the Spirit is a powerful gift that helps us in our times of need—but also when we seek God’s help for others. When you pray in the Spirit for someone else, it may lead to the breakthrough they need!
Being baptized in the Holy Spirit will not only give you boldness—it will give help wherever help is needed. Whenever you pray in the Spirit, remember that He is interceding for you and that “He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:4). You are not alone. The Holy Spirit is your Helper, your Intercessor, and your Strength. Even when you don’t have the words to pray, He does—and He always intercedes according to the perfect will of God.
Here is a simple prayer you can pray to be baptized in the Holy Spirit: Lord Jesus, I ask You to baptize me in the Holy Spirit. Thank You for filling me, for empowering my life to be a witness for You, and for giving me the gift of praying in tongues. I believe, and I receive right now! In Jesus’ name, amen.
