Reflections

Duane Vander Klok

But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
2 Corinthians 3:18

When you look in the mirror, what do you see? Maybe you see a mother or son, a career or failure, value or uselessness. Why do you see yourself that way? Too often we look at our culture, friends, peers, or past to define who we are. But instead, we are supposed to look at who God says we are. His Word is like a mirror that will show you who He created you to be.

When we accept Jesus as the Lord of our life, we are made into a new creature—the old has washed away and we are cleansed! But it can be easy to be affected by our old self because our minds need to be renewed daily. The Holy Spirit renews our minds as we read, meditate on, and act on God’s Word.

As we continually study the Word, we start to see who we are and what God has for us. The God’s Word reveals the lies and curses we see in the mirror and replaces them with truth and peace. Thank you, Jesus! Because when we see the wrong reflection, we cannot be all that He created us to be.

God created you with a destiny in mind; He has great things planned for you! In Joshua 1, God tells Joshua to be strong and of good courage four times. And to build his courage, God instructs Joshua to continually meditate on the Word. When we look into the mirror of God’s Word, we see all that we are, all that we have, and all that we can do. When God puts a desire in your heart, He will be with you, and He will enable you to do it!
