Raising Godly Children
Duane Vander Klok
“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them…” Psalm 127:3-5
Every parent knows that with the blessing of having children also comes great responsibility. Just as an arrow needs to be carefully designed and shaped to fly straight, our kids also need to be shaped and prepared to live godly lives when they are grown and away from our care.
Enjoy them, care for them, and above all, raise them to know and love God. Teach them the truths of His Word; pray with them and worship together as a family. Model His love to them in practical ways. Men, show your sons how a man cares for his wife. Women, show your daughters how a woman loves her husband.
Your children are always watching, and what they see you doing daily is what will impact their lives. Show them what life in the kingdom of God looks like. Don’t just tell them what they should do, but live in a way that continually shows them how a believer lives.
You can shape your “arrows” and get them pointed in the right direction so that when you release them, they “fly” straight and live to make a difference for the Kingdom of God!
