Power of Praise
Duane Vander Klok
When Paul and Silas were in Philippi, they were imprisoned. Instead of becoming discouraged in their situation, they began to sing and praise God. Suddenly, the walls of the prison shook, their chains fell off, and the doors opened! After seeing that the prisoners were still there, the jailer fell at the feet of Paul and Silas asking how he could be saved. That night the jailer and his family were saved. Acts 16:25-34
Even in prison, Paul and Silas chose to praise God. By choosing to focus on His promises rather than their situation, they invited God into their circumstances. We are called to have faith, and our faith invites God to move in our lives. Faith brings His power, deliverance, blessing, favor, and shakes our circumstances until the chains fall off.
Often, we look at the mountains and trials in front of us and think that they are too big to move. When we hear a negative report from a doctor, face an addiction, or a financial obstacle, it is easier to look at all of the things that make healing, freedom, or overcoming impossible. But, instead, we need to look at God. What has He done in the past? What has He already promised? He will never change—He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. What He did to the mountain yesterday, He can do today.
We need to speak to the mountain in faith. Faith does not talk about the problem, it talks about God’s solution. God has already promised healing, freedom, and the strength to overcome, so we need to stand on those promises in faith. If God is for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31 NIV. When we invite God into the prison, chains will fall off and mountains will move.
Fix your eyes on the promises of God. He will never fail you. He will never leave you. Like Paul and Silas, praise Him in every circumstance and invite Him to move in your life.
