Resist The Devil
Duane Vander Klok
Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”
Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’”
Matthew 4:8-10
Before Jesus started His ministry He spent 40 days and nights in the wilderness with God. During that time, the devil tried and tried to tempt Jesus to abandon God’s great plans for Him. But each time Jesus resisted the devil with the Word of God.
Many Christians live as though the devil does not exist, but that only allows him to work in your life even more. James 4:7 says, Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. When the devil shows up, you need to confront him; he will not flee unless you resist him!
Before the devil showed up, God had created a beautiful garden where Adam and Eve could live in perfect relationship with Him. But the devil appeared and destroyed the life and abundance in the garden with lies and temptation. You do not have to fall into that same trap. Instead you can resist the devil’s lies and temptation by leaning on Jesus! The Bible tells us that Jesus was tempted in every way and can understand the trials that you face. Lean on Him for strength, and you can overcome the devil by the blood of the Lamb and the word of your testimony!
The blood of Jesus gives you the authority to stand up to the devil. And like Jesus in the wilderness, you can resist him with the Word of God and your testimony. When the devil tells you a lie, start speaking the truth of God’s Word. And when you are tempted, think of all the times when God has rescued, loved, and cared for you in the past. Speak against the plans of the devil, and watch him flee from your life!
