On The Rock
Duane Vander Klok
Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.
Matthew 7:24-27 NIV
The believer who builds their life on the truth of God’s Word will not easily fall. There are many lies that the world, your flesh, or the devil will try to use to control your life and your thoughts, but only God’s Word reveals His wisdom and truth. And by building your life on the foundation of truth, you will grow in faith and relationship with the Father.
Build on the rock by exalting the Word of God over your emotions. Your emotions will lie to you, but the Word of God is always the truth. Do not be swayed or controlled by what you feel is right – if it does not match what the Word says, it is not truth. Your emotions will follow what you are planting in your mind. When you are sowing worldly ideas and thoughts and ways of life into your mind, your emotions will follow. Those worldly emotions will then tell you that it is okay to live this way or that way, even if it is not biblical. Take care to listen to what the Bible says over your emotions!
When we exalt His Word over everything else in our lives, we will become more than just hearers of the Word – we become doers. Hearing, meditating, and acting on His Word will change us from the inside out, bringing us closer to God and who we are in Christ.
Build your life on the rock!
