New Creation

Duane Vander Klok

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
Matthew 28:18-20

Jesus is not only interested in getting you into heaven when you die, He wants to get heaven into you right now – He wants you to be a disciple. When you accept Jesus into your life and are saved, you are not only on your way to heaven, but inviting Jesus into your life and saying, “Yes, I will follow you, Jesus!”

Your faith is personal, but it is not private. Water baptism is the public statement of a believer to commit to following Jesus. As a symbol of your relationship with Jesus, it is a confession of faith and commitment to be made before your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.

Not only is baptism a confession of faith, it is also the start to your new life with Jesus. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! As you are immersed in that water, the old you is left behind, and you come up as a new creation in Christ! Romans 6:4 compares baptism to burying the old you and rising again with Jesus to start new. Your old sins, habits, and thoughts that were not honoring to God are left behind in that water allowing you to invite Jesus into your life as a new creation!

If you are a new believer, your next step is water baptism. Ask God what He wants to do in your heart and in your life as you leave the old you behind and become a new creation in Him!
