Love One Another

Duane Vander Klok

“This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” John 15:12 (NKJV)

One of the foundations of Christianity is this: “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). As believers, we are called to follow His example.

But this becomes tough when someone – a boss, a spouse, a neighbor – does not act the way we feel they should. At that time, it seems much easier to fall into the trap of “I’ll change when the other person does.”

How about you? Do you have a tendency to respond that way? If so, that is probably not working so well for you.

Whenever you are wrong in an area, it is best to admit it and quit it. Even when your wrong is smaller than the other person’s, ask God to show you how you can improve the relationship. Is there something you know God’s Word says you should be doing? If so, do it whether or not anyone else does the right thing.

Remember, the goal is not to be the one who is always right. The goal is to love the way God loves. So when a dispute arises, ask Him to show you how you can be part of the solution.

Today, walk in the understanding that love is much more than an emotion. It is a choice. Choose today to embrace the people God has put around you. Ask Him to show you how He feels about them. When you see people from His perspective, it becomes much easier to love them the way He does.

Love others as God loves you!
