Living in Your Purpose

Duane Vander Klok

For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Philippians 3:20

Our purpose as Christians goes beyond a future hope of heaven—it is about living in and reflecting Christ’s victory today. While we await His return, we are called to live as His ambassadors, bringing His kingdom to earth through our attitudes and actions.

Jesus didn’t come simply to offer us a ticket to heaven or rescue us from hell. He came so we can live through Him and shine His light to a world in need of His truth and grace. 1 John 4:9 declares, “In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.” This life in Christ is about knowing Him, embracing His ways, and letting His love flow through us to others.

Colossians 3:2 tells each of us to “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.” This eternal mindset changes how we should engage with the world. We no longer live for temporary pleasures or worldly success but for God’s kingdom, seeking His will for our lives. Wherever Jesus reigns, His kingdom is revealed. As His followers, we reflect His light by loving sacrificially, forgiving freely, and speaking His truth boldly.

Today is a good day to check your attitude and actions. Ask God to show you how to live more fully through Him. Seek ways to shine His light in your relationships, work, and community. Remember, it’s not just about where you will spend eternity—it is about walking in purpose, filled with His Spirit, and drawing others to Him.

As you live with God’s kingdom in focus, you will walk in a way that expresses His love, and make your piece of earth as it is in heaven!
