Live Ready!

Duane Vander Klok

“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.” Matthew 24:36

These words of Jesus remind us that there will definitely be a time when He returns. In John 14:3, He also stated, “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” His return is a certain reality. The question is, are we ready?

The Bible urges us to live our lives in a state of readiness. 1 Thessalonians 5:2-3 says, “For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. For when they say, ‘Peace and safety!’ then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.” Like in Noah’s days (Matthew 24:37-39), many will be caught off guard and unprepared.

We also know that when Jesus returns, He will not only be gathering His people to Himself, but also bringing judgment on the world. This truth should motivate us to share the gospel with urgency. Since it is God’s desire that none should perish, it should also be our desire!
As believers, we should not allow ourselves to grow weary, complacent or distracted. The certainty of His return should stir our hearts to live our lives free from the distractions of this world. It is a time to remain faithful, walking in relationship with God every day.

Here’s a question for you to consider: if you knew Jesus was returning before this month ends, what—if anything—would you would do differently?
