Kingdom Authority

Duane Vander Klok

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Matthew 28:18-20

As a believer, you have a responsibility to build the Kingdom of God wherever you go, but what exactly does that mean? The Kingdom of God is established wherever God’s will is done on earth. God desires that His children are in right relationship with Him, set free from fear and brokenness, and living in the power and authority that Jesus won on the cross.

Many Christians wait for God to do something and blame Him when we don’t see Him move, but the truth is that He has given you the authority. In Matthew 18:18-20, Jesus says, “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”

Notice that He did not say what is bound in heaven is bound on earth; rather He made it clear that what you bind on earth is bound in heaven, and what you loose on earth is loosed in heaven. It does not happen in heaven first, but on earth and by your authority!

Ephesians 3:20 tells us that He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we could ask or think according to the power that works in us. It is important to remember that He is working according to the power that is in you. He is waiting for you to move! Signs and wonders follow those who believe because Jesus gave to you the authority won on the cross. You are a partner in building the Kingdom of God!
