How Can I Be Right With God?
Duane Vander Klok
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
Romans 3:23-24
Scripture tells us that the only way to salvation is through faith in Jesus Christ, but do we always believe it? So often we think that God is in Heaven watching every single decision that we make, and on Judgment Day He will tally it all up to see if we will end up in Heaven or Hell. So often we think that God is angry at us, or is going to “smite” us because of our mishaps and mistakes. On the other side, we think that if we say and do the right thing in every situation, that God will roll out a golden carpet as we enter Heaven. The thing is that nothing could be further from the truth.
The Bible says that, “Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to all who believe.” In other words, you are not made righteous by doing good works. You are made righteous through faith in Jesus Christ. Romans 3 tells us that no one has ever been made right with God by the works of the law, and that it is only through faith in Jesus Christ that anyone receives salvation.
This is not permission to do bad things in this life though. Paul also addresses this false idea by saying, “What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? By no means!” (Romans 6:15). We are called to live by faith, to be a light, and to be a living example in this world by spreading His Gospel.
This week, let’s recalibrate our faith and find freedom in His life, death on the cross for our sins, and resurrection.
