Image of God

Duane Vander Klok

Ephesians 2:8-10 says, For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

You were made in the image of God, and when you accepted Jesus, you inherited an eternity with your Father in heaven! God created you in His image because you have a purpose on earth for this time.

God did not only create you for a purpose, but He delights in just being with you. Psalm 149:4 says, For the LORD takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the humble with salvation. Your identity does not come from any earthly thing – possessions, accomplishments, other people, or even yourself. God knew you, your gifts, your purpose, and your worth before you were born! You were uniquely designed by God and are valuable to Him.

It can be easy to try to build your identity from the world’s value system. But instead, invite God into your daily life, and He will show you the gifts and talents that you were created to grow in and share with God’s people.
