Greater Works
Duane Vander Klok
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.” — John 14:12
Have you ever wondered about this powerful promise from Jesus? Who could possibly do greater works than He did? Yet Jesus said it plainly. The “greater works” aren’t about being better than Him, but about having greater reach and impact—because He returned to the Father and sent the Holy Spirit.
In Acts 2, the disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit and empowered to preach the gospel and perform miracles. That same Spirit still fills believers today, continuing Jesus’ ministry around the world.
When we receive Jesus as Savior and Lord, the Holy Spirit comes to live in us. But when we’re baptized in the Holy Spirit, He fills us with boldness and power. He helps us pray more deeply, and live more boldly by empowering us to do what we could never do on our own.
Still, many believers try to serve God in their own strength. Maybe that is you. Maybe prayer feels hard or you have lost momentum. What if what you really need is to be baptized in the Holy Spirit?
This infilling is not about emotion or hype—it is about power for overcoming, witnessing, and seeing God do the miraculous. Acts 1:8 says, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you…” That power isn’t just for preachers or apostles—it is for every believer who asks.
If you have been walking with God but feel weak or ineffective, maybe what you need isn’t to try harder—but to surrender more. Ask Jesus to baptize you with the Holy Spirit. Let Him anoint you for your calling, fill your prayers with fire, and equip you to live this life the way He intended: fully empowered by His Spirit.
