Fruit of the Lips
Duane Vander Klok
“From the fruit of his lips a man is filled with good things as surely as the work of his hands rewards him.” (Proverbs 12:14)
Most people realize that our hands have the ability to produce things. They can make a cake, produce a piece of art or manufacture a product. But this week’s verse tells us that, like our hands, our lips also have the ability to produce something.
With our lips, we speak words that have power and produce “fruit.” When our words line up with what God says, we can expect the fruit to be good.
Unfortunately, the opposite is also true. That’s why Ephesians 4:29 instructs us: “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”
Our prayer for you this week is that you will recognize the power of your words, and that you will take a moment to think before you speak. That way, your words will produce good fruit that blesses you and those around you!
