Finding True Peace
Duane Vander Klok
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. -John 14:27
Peace is often mistaken for the absence of conflict. True peace, however, is an inner tranquility that remains regardless of external circumstances because it is rooted in trust in God and His promises. This deep, inner calm persists even in the midst of chaos.
In today’s world, this kind of peace can seem out of reach. However, the Bible assures us that it is promised through Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, whose title means “the one who removes all peace-disturbing factors and secures peace.” That is what Jesus did this through His death, burial, and resurrection, and that is why true peace can only be found in Him.
Philippians 4:6-7 tells us: Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. It takes a deliberate choice to focus on His truth in the midst of problems and fears, but when we trust God with our needs, the peace He gives is so good that we can hardly comprehend it!
God clearly does not want your heart to be troubled or afraid, and He offers a way to have peace in the midst of storms. Whenever something is causing you inner turmoil, remind yourself that peace isn’t the absence of challenges or chaos. Choose to fix your eyes on Jesus, the Prince of Peace, and trust God’s promises over your fears and anxiety. In doing this, your heart and mind will be protected so you can experience a sense of well-being that only comes from Him.
