Courage Over Fear
Duane Vander Klok
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV
Have you found yourself becoming anxious about going to the grocery store or turning on the news lately? These uncertain times that we find ourselves in today have become a very effective catalyst for fear to direct our lives. But fear is from the enemy, “for God has not given us a spirit of fear.”
Like Joshua, we are called to fight the temptation to fall into fear, and instead, be strong and courageous. God called him to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land even though he was afraid. God reminds Joshua four times to “be strong and courageous” because He knew that Joshua would need help fighting the fear that was trying to hold him back.
In order to fight the fear that the enemy is threatening us with, we need to value what God says over what the world says. As believers, we know that God is more powerful than the enemy, but it can be difficult to continue to trust His Word when it looks like the enemy has control in our lives. However, as we spend more time meditating on His Word, our faith will grow and overcome any fear that the world tries to throw our way.
Trust in His Word over all else. He did not give you “a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and of a sound mind.” Growing in your faith will not come without opposition. The enemy will tempt, distract, and attack you, but God’s Word already holds the victory.
Today and always, believe His Word, confess it with your mouth, and then build your life on its truth. Fear has no hold over you!
