Faithful to Your Spouse
Duane Vander Klok
“Be faithful to your own wife and give your love to her alone.” (Proverbs 5:15)
God intends marriage to be a little bit of heaven on earth. Who wouldn’t want that?
Unfortunately, divorce statistics reveal the truth that many couples are experiencing just the opposite.
No one has to think very long to come up with two or three couples who are contemplating divorce because their marriage seems beyond help or because they have “fallen in love with someone else.” It doesn’t have to be that way.
After all, there isn’t anything or anyone beyond help in God’s eyes. He is able to turn seemingly impossible situations around because nothing is impossible for Him. We just need to humble ourselves and place those situations in His capable hands.
That said, one of the most important things you can do to prevent affairs and marriage failure is to commit – and keep on committing – yourselves to God and to His plan for marriage. As this week’s verse tells us, each of us who are married are to be faithful to our spouse and give our love only to them. That’s about as plain as it can be.
You will find it easier to be faithful and have a much stronger marriage when you and your spouse walk closely with the Lord. As you welcome Him into your relationship and put Him first in everything, you really can experience a little bit of heaven on earth!
