Everlasting Covenant

Duane Vander Klok

Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
Hebrews 13:20-21

You cannot have faith in what you do not understand, because faith is dependent on knowledge. How can Jesus’s death and resurrection impact your life if you are unaware of its power? The blood and sacrifice of Jesus made peace between you and God; it covered your sins and built a bridge back to the Heavenly Father.

You are only made right with God through the everlasting covenant of Jesus’s blood on the cross – there is no set of rules that you could follow, no personal sacrifice, and no amount of good works that you could do to find your own way back to the Heavenly Father. In John 14:6 Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” He provided the one and only way back to the Father through His death and resurrection on the cross. His blood paid for your redemption from sin, your relationship with the Father, and access to all of His promises for your life. Every good and perfect gift comes from Him, but it is difficult to receive gifts from someone you do not know.

Notice that this verse tells us that the blood of Jesus did not only pay for yesterday’s sins, but it also gives you a purpose for today! God has given you gifts and talents for a purpose in His Kingdom – you are needed. Maybe you believe you are unqualified or unfit, but the blood of Jesus enables you to fulfill what you were created to do.

You may be wondering: how do I apply what Jesus purchased on the cross to my life? Psalm 107 says let the redeemed of the Lord say so. There is power in your words and you need to begin speaking the promises of God over your life. Revelation 12:11 says, And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. God wants healing, blessing, peace, and purpose for your life and it is available to you through the death and resurrection of Jesus!
