Empowered to Overcome

Duane Vander Klok

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Ephesians 3:20-21

Nothing or no one is more powerful than God, and He delights in giving only good gifts. In John 10:10, Jesus draws a clear line between His purpose and the enemy’s plan: The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. If something steals, kills, or destroys, it is not from God. While pain and hardship exist because the enemy is still at work, Jesus defeated death, reclaimed authority at the cross—and gave that authority to us!

Too often, we’re tempted to shrink back when trouble comes. But God calls us to stand firm in His strength. Jesus said in Luke 10:19, “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” The victory is already won, and He has empowered us to overcome.

Our greatest weapon in this fight is the Word of God. When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, He defeated Satan by declaring, “It is written…” He countered every lie with truth, wielding the sword of the Spirit. We are called to do the same.

When the enemy comes with lies, temptations, or trials, you don’t have to falter. God’s power is alive on the inside of you. Stand on His promises and trust in His unfailing Word. In Jesus’ Name, you are free. You are healed. You are victorious!
