A Healthy Body, Soul, & Spirit

And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

-1 Kings 19:11-12

Elijah lived in about 870 BC when Israel had a wicked king in power named Ahab. King Ahab was leading the Israelites astray by worshiping the false god Baal. And Elijah was the only prophet left standing against the king.

Elijah stood strong against Ahab, but he let the Queen’s threats overcome his faith. After one of the greatest miracles God has performed, Elijah let doubt and fear take over his mind. He fled and sank into depression and suicidal thoughts.

When he was stuck in his fear and depression, God first took care of Elijah’s physical needs.

Your life is not about you, but about God’s kingdom! But you cannot accomplish the plans God has for you if you do not take care of the body He gave you. After Elijah had eaten and had some nourishment, he was able to climb the mountain where he experienced the presence of God. Elijah did not find God in the wind, earthquake, or fire, but in His still, small voice. When God spoke, his mind was restored and his spiritual calling was renewed.

When fear, doubt, and anxiety threaten to overtake your life, invite God into your situation. Allow Him to speak and move in your heart. Our culture gives us solutions like “time heals all wounds” or “manage the symptoms.” But the Bible tells us that Jesus came to heal the broken hearted and set the captives free. Turn to Him because your help comes from the Lord!
