A Complete Marriage

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

Marriage is not designed to meet all of your needs. There are some who think that when they get married, they will be complete, whole, and fulfilled. But you were not designed to be fulfilled by another person. If your spouse could meet all of your needs, you would not be able to recognize your need and hunger for God. You will never be complete without God – only He can satisfy!

A marriage was designed to include a man, a woman, and God in the middle. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. With God in the middle, your marriage can be strong, complete, and whole. Including Him can look like praying together, inviting Him into your decisions and disagreements, and encouraging each other to seek Him.

God honors and works in our relationships when we build on His foundation. A godly foundation is set upon the truth and wisdom God gives us through His Word and the Holy Spirit with grace, love, and trust as important foundational pieces. We are able to build on this foundation with the help of the Holy Spirit who equips us to follow Jesus beyond our own ability and strength. Invite God to be the third chord in your marriage!
