God is the Healer
Duane Vander Klok
And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
Mark 16:17-18
Jesus’s healing ministry was not only a sign of His power and authority here on earth, but also a demonstration of His love for us. Too many people believe that God does not perform miracles today, but we need to understand that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. We know that sickness is not from God but from the devil. Our Heavenly Father gives good gifts to His children (Matthew 7:11) while the devil comes only to kill, steal, and destroy (John 10:10).
Our God is a God of miracles, but not all healings happen instantaneously. God works through doctors and medicine as well! We should always go to God first and look to Him in every part of the process. We can know that He is working through the prayer, doctor appointments, and treatment process.
There are a few things that can block us from receiving the healing God has promised. In Matthew 13:58, we read that Jesus is unable to heal the people due to their unbelief. He was not unwilling to heal, He was unable! Their doubt blocked them from receiving God’s promise. At other times, we may be missing the root cause of the infirmity. In Luke 13:11, we read, And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bent over and could in no way raise herself up. In this case, the root of her condition was a spirit of infirmity. Jesus first said, “Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity.” Then He laid hands on her and healed her. Roots can take the form of demonic spirits, bitterness, or unforgiveness.
As a believer, you have the authority to receive healing for yourself and others. When Jesus rose from the dead and ascended to heaven, He gave the authority back to you and me. We have the power to resist the devil and claim the promises of God! Luke 10:19 says, Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. With the boldness and power of the Holy Spirit on the inside of you, you will lay your hands on the sick and they will recover.
