The Spiritual Realm
Duane Vander Klok
And when the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?”
So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, and said, “Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
2 Kings 6:15-17
When an enemy arose against the prophet Elisha, he stood firm knowing the strength and power of God. Though it may look like you are facing an unbeatable foe in the natural realm, remember that our battle is not fought against earthly things and beings, but is fought in the spiritual realm. Ephesians 6:12 says, For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. As a believer, you are not fighting your battles alone. Your Heavenly Father is always with you. He is all powerful, on your side, and has already won the victory against death, sin, and the devil! He is a good Father who has great plans for you.
How do you fight your battles? Do you swing aimlessly at other people, doctor’s reports, or cultural ideas? Or do you put on the armor of God and fight with prayer and God’s Word? When the devil came to Jesus in the desert, Jesus was prepared for the fight and armed with scripture. Three times He fought back saying, “It is written…” (Matthew 4:1-11). Jesus knew that He was fighting a spiritual battle, and His proper weapons were faith and the truth of God’s Word. Ask God to open your eyes to see the battle in the spiritual realm and His angel armies standing beside you!
