Receiving the Promise
Duane Vander Klok
Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
2 Peter 1:2-4
There are over 7,000 promises in the Bible that God makes to us as His children. And in 2 Corinthians we are assured that these promises are “yes and amen” in Him. His promises are for you and available to you today! So how can we receive these promises?
As a child of God, you have already been given these precious promises. All things – your natural life and your spiritual life – are covered by the redemption that Jesus paid for on the cross. It is easy to feel undeserving when God wants to bless us, but His gifts are not based on your performance. We do not qualify based on our merit, but by His grace.
Hebrews 4:2 says, For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. There is a promise available, but you have to mix it with faith to receive it. We often come to God in prayer to talk about our problems, but we need to begin speaking His promises. Think of His promises as voice activated. We can receive from Him when we begin to speak in faith. We don’t need to talk about the mountain in front of us, but talk to it using the Word of God!
