Renewing Yourself
Duane Vander Klok
I appeal to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of [all] the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all your members and faculties] as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship.
Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].
Romans 12:1-2 AMPC
These verses are the key to a victorious Christian life. Let’s think about the first verse: as a believer, you are offering yourself as a living sacrifice to God each day. But what does that mean?
Well, your thoughts, actions, and decisions reflect your love for God, His Word, and His will in your day to day life. But know that when you invite Jesus into your life, your spirit is saved and transformed by God, but your mind and body are still a mess. Your spirit wants to serve God, but your mind and body still desire to think and act selfishly.
When you present your mind and body as a living sacrifice each day, you are choosing His ways over worldly desires. And remember: you have the Holy Spirit as your helper! He will guide you into the ways of God as you renew your mind in the Word each day. Now, your body is going to despise being a living sacrifice. So deciding to serve God with your spirit, mind, and body is an everyday decision. As you decide to serve God with your whole being, you become the hands and feet of Jesus here on earth!
